Jakarta : Food Tasting : Taste of India at Bengawan Keraton at The Plaza Hotel

Are you ready for some Indian food ? I am !

Being a food blogger and tasting all the food around Jakarta, somehow..... my tongue is already tired with Western or European Food. Nowadays, when I go on my own, I will just go to nearby street food or other Indonesian/Asian restaurant. I'm craving for food with bursting of flavors and textures, not just the bland one.

So when this invitation comes up, immediately I say yes. I do craving some Indian food after watching AFC the other night :p So I guess this is the perfect time to satisfied my cravings ! So from this 4th - 7th June 2015, Bengawan restaurant at the luxurious Keraton at The Plaza Hotel, held this 'Taste of India' promotion. Chef Narayan Salunke from Westin Pune Koregaon Park, India will prepare the authentic Indian flavors to you.

You can opted for a delectable 3 course set menu for IDR 295.000++ per person ( Available for Lunch and Dinner ) or, Saturday and Sunday brunch with Indian corner for IDR 595.000++ per person with free-flowing non alcoholic beverages, or IDR 1.195.000++ per person with an endless flow of house wines and Billecart-Salmon Champagne.

So that time we got a chance to try some of the food that prepared by Chef Narayan. The lunch started with this welcome drink called Kokum Shorbate with Guacamole Goal Gappa. This one is really interesting because Chef Narayan do some fusion twist with the goalgappa. Goalgappa is a round and hollow Poori, which is a deep fried unleavened Indian bread. It was very thin and crispy, just like a fried wonton. And the drinks which Kokum Shorbate, which a traditional Indian drinks made from Kokum, a plant which still a mangosteen family, and in Indonesia we usually called it 'Asam Kandis'. The drink made with Kokum Juice, Mango Powder and Black Salt. The taste is very tangy, a bit salty, but somehow... it's refreshing.

For the appetizer Chef Narayan served this Dastaane E-kumbh tawa, which is a char-grilled mushroom with traditional Tandoori masala with cheese and fresh bell pepper. The mushroom was cooked perfectly and it was nice with a hint of spices in it.

Next appetizer is Peshawari murgh tikka. This chicken was really packed with spices! It was a bit salty to my palate, but I think if we eat it with some Indian breads, would be balanced.

For the main course, we got to try from the buffet. Patiala Shahi ghost, which is lamb cubes marinated with whole Indian spices in brown curry, was sooo delish ! It was tender, bit sweet, savory and  flavorsome ! We also enjoy the Butter Chicken, which is a Tandoori chicken cooked with rich tomato fondue, white butter and sweet fenugreek. Green Peas Pulao, which is basmati rice cooked with broth and green peas. Also Veggies cooked in curry. To enjoy the dishes we can't miss the Indian condiments such as Chili Pickle, Raita ( made with yoghurt ) and Mango Pickle.

Chef Narayan also served us this fresh Paratha and Poori.

For dessert, we've been served with this 3 types of Indian desserts, and all was interesting to me! First is Rasgulla, which is made from curdled milk or cottage cheese, shaped into balls and served with simple sugar syrup. It was interesting because the textures was spongy and fluffy, and the syrup was soaked in the balls, so when you bite it, it's bursting with the cold syrup. The other interesting one is Mohanthal, a dessert made with lentils or usually chickpea flour. It was very crumbly, and the texture was fibery, almost reminded me of Indonesian snack 'Rambut Nenek'. The other dessert is like 'Es Buah', milk with fruits and candied fruits.

Overall, I'm really satisfied with the dishes and it was always interesting to taste something new. If you're looking for an authentic Indian food in Jakarta, you definitely have to drop by ! Until tomorrow guys!
