Jakarta : Food Tasting : Pearl Chinese Restaurant at JW Marriott Hotel Jakarta

Chinese new year coming soon ! Won't hurt if you planning your feasts early right?

In welcoming the year of Goat, this year Pearl already arrange set menus starting from IDR 588.000++ per person. So last night, me and several food bloggers friends got invited for a special review for this menu.

The dinner prepared by the Executive Chinese Chef John Chu from Malaysia. Besides the set menu, you can also takeaway all the Yee-sang and set menu, if you wish to enjoy your feast at home. They also served many various of Hampers, including the Chinese new year cake, Nian Gao. The interesting thing was the Nian Gao comes in various flavor and also shaped into Koi -fish. So cute !

The interior was a bit of like Modern-Chinese. More semi - formal and spacious.

To start the Set Menu, Happiness Salmon Fish "Yee Sang" was served to us. Yee Sang is the traditional culture also known as a 'Prosperity Toss', we have to grab our chopsticks, mixed all the ingredients on plate and toss in the air ( the higher the better :p ) and saying "Lo Hei" at the same time. The Yee Sang tasted a bit too sweet for me, since the candied fruits also added in this Yee Sang. Well I expected a bit more sour and spicy taste in this dish because I only tasted the sweetness of it.

Next is Braised Dry Scallop Soup with Swim Bladder ( Fish Maw ) and Crab Meat. The soup was pretty lovely and comforting. The Fish Maw gives a nice smooth-slippery texture to it, and the crab meat was quite abundant.

Steamed Sea Bass Fillet with Garlic and Superior Soy Sauce. Omg, this is the highlight of the dinner. The seabass was fresh and perfectly cooked. It was so fluffy and smooth, and the sauce was light and savory. My plate was clean !

Wok-fried King Prawn with Ginger Spicy Sauce. Too bad this prawn a bit overcooked for me, because it's chewy in texture. But I love the spicy sauce. Kind of remind me of Singaporean chili crab sauce.

Roasted Duck and Chicken Hongkong Style and Prawn Cracker. This one is also nice, love the crispy skin on both of the chicken and duck. The sauce was also sweet and savory as well.

Braised Dried Oyster with Fa Cai, Taukan, Mushroom and Vegetable. Fa cai is a black moss that looks like a black hair ( seriously !). The dried oyster with it's distinctive flavor was served nicely with a light starchy sauce.

Fried Rice with Assorted Waxed Meat ( Dried Meat ) Wrapped in Lotus Leaf. Love the fragrant flavor because it's wrapped with the Lotus Leaf. Chestnut also added in this rice. But I found the taste a bit lack of seasoning.

For dessert! Assiette of Chinese Pastries. This dessert was presented nicely with the greetings written on it. This dish was served with Nian Gao with Coconut and Lotus Paste Pancake. The Nian Gao definitely remind me of Indonesian Snack, Ongol -Ongol.

Rainbow Rice Dumpling with Ginger Soup. This one is also like Indonesian dessert, Ronde Jahe. The mochi was soft and the filling was smooth and nutty.

Overall I had a nice dinner in Pearl Chinese Restaurant. Thanks JW Marriott Hotel Jakarta for having me :)

  1. The first time I came, I was with my cousin! And, I fell in love with Boston restaurants already! Their mushroom rice was good as well, my cousin said that it was better than risotto! After one visit, I knew I had to come back again soon.
