Recipe : Crustless Ham Quiche

As I promise ( to myself :p ) that I don't wanna put only restaurant review on my blog, here I am posting my first Yummy Traveler recipe ! ;p It wasn't planned actually, but after my far -far sister who lives in Cambodia asking for a recipe after I posted the pic on my facebook, I'm thinking....... why not put it here and share with you guys? ;)

I always love cooking or baking. I just wish I had a better kitchen, better tools or utensils ( like those KitchenAid lols ). But yea.... I have to learn to be grateful with what I have right? ;) The good side of it is sometimes it push my creativity. It's also push my skill and instinct ( yea cooking need good instinct! haha ) I failed many times. But cooking teaches me that even though you failed many times, it doesn't mean your not good at it. Keep on trying, and someday you could nailed it!

Ok so back to the Quiche. Quiche is actually comes from city of Lorraine in French. That's why Quiche Lorraine is the name you've been familiar with, right? Usually it made from a pie crust, then an egg custard on top. U can add anything to your quiche! Spinach, bacon, ham, zucchini, mushroom, Anything ! The day that I made this crustless Quiche, it's the day that I found almost nothing in my fridge! Oh well... only Ham that's left, so that is why. haha...

What I love about Quiche is the textured that really soft and smooth. In the same time you can taste the creamy goodness from Egg, Cheese and Milk. Oh man... I just loveeee dairy products. haha... That's why I love Quiche so muchhh! Amour !

Quiche is pretty easy to make, and I bet if you do what I have here, it's really a perfect 'to go' food. Whether you are a busy worker or college student, or maybe a busy mommy. It's easy, quick and yummy at the same time! You can put together whatever you have in your fridge as long as you have egg, milk and cheese. haha.. Ok then, so here's my recipe! Enjoy!

Cook Time : Around 1 hour.
Servings : 7
Ingredients :

4 tbsp Olive Oil
2.5 cm or 1 1/2cups day- old bread cubes ( or you just can use breadcrumbs)
1/2 medium white Onion, chopped
3 large eggs
2 egg yolks
2 cups or 680gr Full Cream Milk ( or you can substitute to Skim Milk )
170gr Cheese ( You could use any kind of cheese Goat cheese, Gruyere, Swiss, but this time I just use KRAFT Cheddar Cheese )
2 tsp Oregano
Salt and Pepper to taste

Directions :

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F ( or 170 C ).

Pulse bread into crumbs in a food processor ( or you can just use bread crumbs instead ). Heat 2 tablespoons Olive Oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add bread crumbs and stir evenly until toasted. Usually around 5 minutes.

Lightly greased your 10 inch ( or 27cm ) glass or ceramic pie pan with butter, then evenly spread the crumbs.

Wipe out the skillet, add remaining 2 tablespoons of olive oil, then ad the onions and ham, cook over medium high heat. Add salt, pepper, and oregano. Stirring for 2 minutes then remove from heat, cool slightly.

Whisk together milk, eggs, egg yolks in a large glass or bowl. Then add your cheese, this time I use cheddar so I grated my cheddar cheese. Spread the mixture in the prepared pan.

Bake until the quiche is just set in the center, about 40 to 50 minutes. Cool completely before serving and ..... enjoy!

Food/Restaurant Review : Signature - Kempinski Hotel

A couple months ago, me and my friends had a lil bit 'celebrations' mode, so we decided to do Buffet dinner. Yes it's All You Can Eat time! haha... Some people found it Heaven ( like me), some people ( whose on a tight diet ) think it's a Hell. But hey... YOLO! ;p ( read: You Only Live Once #LatelyFaveWords ) Just like Jamie Oliver's say... 'Life is too short to eat craps'. So why not doing AYCE once in a while right ? ;)

Atmosphere :
To be honest, I'm quite liking the interior that Signature Restaurant has. It's spacious yet cozy. I like the mix of marbles, dark wood and the floral pattern touch. And oh...! They also had a huge, cute and comfy kids room too!

Price :
Dinner IDR 276.000++/ person

Food :
For the appetizer I choose Mushroom Cream Soup. It's actually quite fine and creamy, even though the texture not quite thick.

Still on the appetizer menu, I took some of Foie Gras Mousse, Baby Octopus, Shiitake Mushroom, Beef and Asparagus and Salmon Ikura. All of it tasted great, except the beef and asparagus, it's a bit too dry.

From the Salad station, I took some of lettuce, corn and anchovies. They're actually serve quite extensive selections here.

From the Japanese station, I took only Sashimi. Salmon, Tuna, Tuna blackpepper tataki, Snapper and... Scallop ! To be honest, it's my first time for having scallop sashimi, and it's quite nice that Signature's serves this! Yes I fall in love at the first time. Fresh, fluffy, sweet. Yum!

From the seafood station, I took some mussels, shrimp, prawn and smoked salmon. Tasted fresh, even though I want some oystersssss. haha... too bad they only serves oysters at brunch time.

Then from the pasta station, Penne with Pesto sauce. I alwayssss love pestooo, and they're serves good pesto here. Tasted fresh!

From the carving station, I took some of the Roast Beef and Chicken with some vegetables. They're actually had the gravy, but it doesn't tasted good so I didn't use it, it's bland and lack of seasoning. The beef and chicken tasted fine, even though need some more smokey taste in it. The veggies jut had a strong spiced taste in it.

Next is Lamb Chop with Mashed Potatoes. The lamb chop tasted just ok. A lil bit chewy though.

They're actually still had many other kind of dishes, like their famous Sop Buntut, but too bad I'm too full to taste it, so I think next time maybe I will ;)
So are you ready for dessert???? One of the winner of the night is Sticky Toffee Date Pudding. The signature sweetness from date fruits took my heart away, the toffee sauce..... OMG. It's warm and moist, heavenly!

The other desserts like sorbets & ice creams or another variety of cakes also yum. I think they serves one of the best variety desserts in town.

Food Review : Macaroni House

A couple times ago, some local home business send me some of their products to taste, Macaroni Schotel ( Baked macaroni ) or usually Indonesian called it 'Macaroni Panggang'. Macaroni Schotel is quite well known around Indonesian people. It could be a great snack, or could be a fulfilling dish. It could be one of a must-dish while we have a party or maybe just a delicious gift. Such a heartwarming type of food!

It is said that Macaroni Schotel was bought by the Dutch colonial. Schotel itself is a Dutch word for 'dish'. If you search around google, apparently this dish quite originally from Indonesia :p I mean... we have our own recipe that is different with the other baked macaroni dishes. The difference is usually we put corned beef and ... nutmeg! yum!

Back to the business, Macaroni House started by homecooked mom who has a passion in culinary. She started this business and you can tell, she's serious. First, look from the packaging. Cute design and very handy. Perfect for event or parties, or maybe just 'to go' food.

That time I got a chance to taste 4 kind of their products, and yes.... for this post I had fun creating my own settings and stuff. Let me know what you think about it okay ? ;)
The first is is Chicken Pesto. Ok this is the very first I had Macaroni Schotel with Pesto taste, and..... I like it! I always loveeee pesto! I love the exquisite taste of basil, and I heard they also used pine nuts that they bought from Australia to make the pesto. and yea... That's why this kind was a limited edition ;) Oh yea... what I found out is they also used long macaroni instead of usual macaroni though.

Next one is Three Cheese. What's interesting from this kind is they put some paprika in. Taste salty with some kick from paprika.

Then, Bolognaise. For this one I think I could not really taste the bolognaise sauce. Need more taste of tomato, and adding oregano would be better I think ;)

Last one is Smoked Beef. Taste quite cheesy but I think need more smokey taste of the smoked beef.

Well overall I think this kind of Macaroni Schotel is slightly mild besides the other than I've been try. I don't know about you guys, but to me a yummy macaroni schotel is cheesy, creamy & egg-gy ( lols I mean more eggs ). But if you like a light taste, I bet you will like this ;)

And here are the prices :
- Rectangular Small 9x15x3cm - IDR 37.500
- Square Large 20x20x4.5cmIDR 210.000
- Oval Medium 10x19x4.5cmIDR 80.000
- Cup personal size – IDR 15.000
- Bitterballen – 1 pack isi 12 pcs,
IDR 30.000

Afternoon Bites with Din Tai Fung and Femina & Yummy Giveaway !

Several weeks ago Femina magazine invited me to join their gathering at Din Tai Fung. I believe many of you already familiar with this Chinese food restaurant who's got 1 Michelin star in Hongkong. So they just recently renovated their new Noodle Bar concept in Plaza Senayan.

The new place was not too spacious, but the design quite simple and fresh especially with the quirky design lamp. So for the appetizer, we've been served with Pancake Abon ala Shanghai ( Beef Floss Pancake ala Shanghai ) - IDR 20.000,-. I kinda like this pancake. The beef floss inside quite generous, tasted lil bit sweet and the outside is quite dense and bit crunch. Nice.

The next appetizer is a failed to me, Enoki Goreng dengan cabe ( Crispy Fried Enoki Mushroom with Chili ) - IDR 38.000,-. First I cannot taste the textures of Enoki mushroom, second, the heat from the chili is punching my throat. Don't get me wrong, I like spicy food. But how could you say it if you're keep coughing and your throat is itchy after the first bite?

Then we also served with Sup Wonton Ayam dan Sayuran ( Chicken Vegetables Wonton Soup ) - IDR 32.000 (4 pcs ). I love this hearty soup! Warm and comforting. The wonton also tasted great with generous filling.

Din Tai Fung quite famous with their signature Xiao Long Bao, well I'm quite a fan too. So to welcoming this month of Ramadhan, Din Tai Fung launch their Authentic Indonesian taste Xiao Long Bao! Starting from 2010, they made Opor Ayam Xiao Long Bao, Xiao Long Bao Rendang on 2011, and this year it's time for Xiao Long Bao Satay ! - 4 pcs/ IDR 38.000 - 6pcs/IDR 51.000 - 10pcs/IDR 75.000. Woo... ! Interesting right? I'm quite impress with their idea of mixing their signature food with Indonesian food. As an Indonesian we should proud of our own food, and make them famous in the global world! I think doing fusion is quite a way though, anyway..... back to the Xiao Long Bao satay! To be honest, it's quite weird to me! :p I still love the flimsy skin, but what I can only taste inside is soupy peanuts sauce. Maybe it's better translated if we just dip the xiao long bao into peanuts sauce instead of putting it inside. I don't know... maybe though. But I do appreciate their efforts! It's always fun to try something fusion :D

For the main course we've been served with a nice Hainanese Rice - IDR. 21.000. Then also Ayam Nanas dengan Saus Asam Manis ( Pineapple Chicken with Sweet Sour Sauce) - IDR 50.000. I love the glazy crispy skin, but I think the cuts are too tiny. But it's addictive. I love it!

Next is Ikan Asap Ala Shanghai ( Shanghainese Smoke Fish) -IDR 45.000. The dory fish taste quite delicate with overly sweet Teriyaki sauce, and it's not smokey enough though.

For the veggies is Tumis Buncis dengan Sapi ( Sauteed Green Beans with Minced Beef ) - IDR 52.000. Tasted just ok.

For the dessert we've been served with Mango Fantasy - Personal /IDR 38.000 - Sharing /IDR 58.000. The presentation..... mouthwatering isn't it? A tall shaved ice with abundant mango syrup and mango ice cream on top. To me, I kinda dislike the slight bitter taste of the syrup, but the mango ice cream ( which happen to be Haagen Dazs ) was heavenly !

For the drink, Blackcurrant Bubble Tea. Quite refreshing with bubble inside.

We also gifted with some souvenirs from both Din Tai Fung and Femina. Thanks for inviting !

Food Tasting Invitation : Bengawan at Keraton - The Plaza

Several weeks ago I was invited by Keraton Hotel at The Plaza to savor their signature restaurant, Bengawan. At first I didn't know that there's a hotel around The Plaza, so I just knew that they just recently opened this year. Keraton at The Plaza was a brand of Luxury Collection Hotel under Starwood Hotels and Resorts, so no wonder that this hotel is very alluring and luxurious.

What I like about the concept about this hotel is attention to details! You can have your personal butler, you can do check in's in your bedroom ( no need to go to the reception), and you can find a little sanctuary behind all those hectic and rush that Jakarta's always offer. The interior was amazing too. Masculine with Black color dominating ( my fave color is black! That's why! :p ), Indonesian originated sculptures and center pieces, high quality materials and furniture, well... it all comes together really well!

Since I'm not a travel writer, I have to back on the business don't I ? ;D As I mention before, Bengawan is the signature restaurant from Keraton. Bengawan is an old Javanese word of river, so that's also reflects in their interior. Elegant but not rigid. I love the touch of colors, it lifts up the ambience, fresh.

With the limit of spaces that they had, Bengawan knows that they couldn't offer many kinds of cuisine. But the good thing behind it, they maximize all they're could offer with serving high quality food ingredients. Not just that, I also loveeee their cutlery and plates! Ok... so for starters, we've been served with fresh bread, and for accompany it I took Broccoli Cream Soup and Lettuce Romaine Salad with Bacon Bits and Cheese. All of it tasted nice!
From the appetizer corner, I took some mini version of Gado - Gado ( Indonesian Salad with Peanuts sauce ), Tuna Wasabi Mayo and Crab Cucumber Salad. The presentation was nice! But for Gado- Gado, I had a difficulties to mix it with the peanuts sauce at the bottom. Well it tasted nice, but it tasted better if we can mixed it well with the sauce. The Tuna Wasabi Mayo..... addictives!! Very well combinations of mayo and wasabi.
From the seafood corner, I took lil bit of them all. Tasted fresh !
From the Pasta corner, we tried Penne cooked in Pesto sauce. Al dente and nice pesto sauce!
From the Indonesian corner, We took their signature Nasi Keraton and also the other dish like Otak- Otak Ikan Salmon ( Salmon Otah ), Sawi Saus Tauco ( Endives cooked with Fermented Soybeans ), Gulai Tunjang, Semur Ayam ( Chicken stewed in sweet soy sauce ). Nasi Keraton similar like humble Nasi Uduk/ Nasi Lemak with shredded chicken, tempeh, green beans and omelette. Otak- Otak Ikan Salmon tasted spicy but very flavorful! Really like it! Sawi Saus Tauco was a fail for me, because using tauco wasn't well enough for endives. Gulai Tunjang ( Kikil ) was a winner too! Very tender and flavorsome! Yum!
Also from the Indonesian corner is, Sop Buntut ( Oxtail Soup ). This one also a winner. A savory broth with tender oxtail meat. Nice!
Another Indonesian food, Ayam Bakar Rica ( Grilled Chicken Rica ). Yes it's spicy! But I think a lil bit too salty and dry for me.
There's also Japanese corner and Noodle corner.

What interesting here, they also had pass around food carts that could come to your table. This two carts serve Foie Gras ( Yes! Foie Gras !!!!!! ) and carving selections.
Pan Fried Foie Gras served with toasted Brioche, Apple Marmalade, Onion and Red Wine Reduction Sauce. I love the combination of sweet and tarty taste of the foie gras! Yum!

The other one from the cart is Grilled Rib Eye with vegetables and red wine reduction sauce. This medium rare rib eye taste nice with the sauce.
It's time for the beverages ! If you looking for some interesting cocktails, yes they have! I say it's interesting because they had a special selections of cocktails that really represent Indonesia. That time I order, Gado - Gado Margarita ( Tequila, Orange Liqueur, Fresh Lime, Cucumber and Peanut ) - IDR 135.000,-. To me, this drink quite interesting. It does represent Gado-Gado with it's strong cucumber and peanuts taste! haha... and that chili on top? Sexy huh? :D
Next is Pasundan Fashioned ( Crushed Indonesian Pohpohan leaf and beetroot, bourbon, fresh local pineapple, lime, honey) - IDR 135.000,-. Fruity and very refreshing! I love the presentation too!
The non alcohol drink that I order is, TWG Moroccan Mint ! Haha... my most fave flavor from TWG ;p I kinda like the pot! Sleek design.
Peach Ice Tea. This glass is superrr tall ! Lol.
Now.... the best that are yet to come, Desserts !! Red Velvet, Carrot Cake, Mango Mousse, Creme Brulee, ohhhh.... all of it was heavenly ! I think they're quite good with the desserts! The strawberry gelato also tasteee heavenly!

And here are their package and prices :
