Breakfast in Phnom Penh - Cambodia

Ceumriepsue ! ( Hello in Cambodian ) Finally I'm able to write a post again after having 2 weeks trip to Cambodia and Vietnam! It's really an exciting weeks for me! Getting to know the people, the culture, the language and of course, the FOOD ! :D I feel so blessed for this opportunities and feels great that I'm doing this trip. Never been to those two countries before, But I could say it was a BEST first experience ! Maybe people could say it, Love at the first sight ;)

Having breakfast at Phnom Penh is not that hard. Most of the restaurant or food stall in Phnom Penh always serves the breakfast menu. The menu is always simple, Rice or Noodle Soups. Yes there's also another varieties like porridge, fried noodle or breads, but for me, everytime I come to the restaurant the choices are only that two. Lols.

The very typical rice dish for breakfast is Bai Sach Chrouk. Bai Sach Chrouk ( my OZ's friend called it Bai Sach Crunch. LOL ) is just a simple rice with thinly sliced grilled pork and scallions on top. There's many way to prepare the pork. Some marinated it in coconut milk or garlic, some just using a slow grilling technique to make the pork really sweet and tender. And yes! This is a very heartwarming dish! Very nice to eat it while it's hot! The sweet glazey thinly sliced pork is also nice when eating it with the chili paste. Nom!

The next one is Kuy Teav ( or Kwe Tiau in Bahasa? :p ). Actually I had this dish for the first breakfast while I'm in Cambodia. Well... yes I alwaysss love any kind of food with soups, so yes I love it ! It is said that this dish are bought by the Chinese, so it's quite similar to chinese version of rice noodle soups. Kuy Teav is basically a rice noodle soups with a savory beef or pork stocks. The stocks not as clear as Vietnamese Pho though, maybe because they also add fried garlic and garlic oil. You also can choose between Beef or Pork Kuy teav. For the first one, I choose beef one. It's also come with beef meatballs ( quite reminding me of Indonesian dish 'Bakso' ), and the sliced beef is half cooked so the meat not really chewy but tasted sweet. You can choose to eat it with chili sauce and hoisin sauce as you like ( just like pho isn't it ).

The pork one comes with minced pork meats, sliced pork, pork liver and also squids. Ha! No idea why there's squid in there but that's good :D Added bean sprouts and lime, perfecto !

Near Tutoumpong Market

I also got some chance to having breakfast in some restaurant that has a strong chinese influence ( or maybe .... it is a chinese restaurant ! lols ). The Bai Sach Chrouk comes with Hainanese chicken rice :D That time I also order Hainanese Chicken Rice.... Lols. Feels like having breakfast in Singapore or China.

No.2AEO Street 155, Phnom Penh

They also serves some snacks.

Every restaurant in Cambodia, always serves the chopsticks or spoon and fork in a glass of hot boiling water. Hygiene !

That's all ! Oh yea, breakfast in Cambodia could take 1.5 - 3 USD. Well maybe in another time I will try to eat other varieties of breakfast in Cambodia. Ceumriplii ! ( goodbye in Cambodian )
